2024 Trends: Colours

Let's talk colour trends we've got lined up for this year, referenced in my favourite films and shows of the moment.

🍑 Pantone’s colour of the year is peach fuzz.
Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla explored all 60’s peachy pink tones to tell the story of what she does best: girlhood.

🍇 Etsy’s colour of the year is berry.
Tigris in the new Hunger Games Ballad of Songbird’s and Snakes gives us the first glimpse of the origins of ‘Capitol fashion’ in a costume of peachy pink and berry tones.

🍒 WGSN also announced their colours of the year, which included ‘cherry lacquer’. It “feeds into themes of resistance and rebellion.”
Daisy Jones and the Six hit the trend jackpot with this one. Daisy’s creative rebellion is often witnessed in her burgundy/cherry outfit choices.

🍷 Burgundy is dominating the runways of spring/summer 2024, and it wouldn’t be a mini trend report with the mention of Saltburn.
Burgundy is often associated with upper-class society. It’s viewed as a colour indicating power. It brings forward strong feelings of passion and desire. If you’ve seen the film, you get where I’m going with this. Admittedly, there were many standout period fashion pieces in the film that I absolutely adored, but the significance of the burgundy robe is a key piece tied to the plot.
